Dr. Daniel Schimmel is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University practicing interventional cardiology in the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Schimmel attended medical school at Rush University and completed his residency and fellowship training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and University. In addition to his medical training, he holds a master’s degree in clinical investigation from Northwestern University.
Dr. Schimmel has served in numerous leadership roles including as chief medical resident and fellow during training and then continuing as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Fellowship Director for Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Schimmel is focused on quality outcomes, completing training within the Academy of Safety and Quality with leadership positions such as chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Safety Subcommittee.
Dr. Schimmel's has number of research and clinical interests focused on revascularization within the coronary and pulmonary vascular beds. These include chronic total occlusion coronary intervention and high-risk coronary interventions with mechanical circulatory support. Additionally, Dr. Schimmel has led the charge to advance pulmonary vascular interventions for both acute and chronic pulmonary thromboembolic disease.
