Dr. Mahir Elder is an esteemed Interventional Cardiologist with a special interest in pulmonary embolism and expertise in managing even the most complex heart conditions. He is the founder of the Heart & Vascular Institute, which operates multiple locations throughout the metro Detroit area. Dr. Elder currently serves as the Chief of Cardiology at Corewell Health – Dearborn, MI.

Specializing in minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Elder brings a robust medical background to his practice, holding seven national board certifications. His commitment to clinical excellence is matched by a passion for advancing cardiovascular care.

Dr. Elder is also a dedicated educator. He holds faculty positions as a Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. In 2012, he established Michigan’s first comprehensive Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT), reflecting his leadership in the field. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the National PERT Consortium and is its President-Elect.

A respected voice in academic medicine, Dr. Elder is widely published in pulmonary embolism research. His contributions to healthcare have earned numerous accolades, including Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Teacher of the Year and Mentor of the Year, Crain’s Healthcare Hero, Hour Detroit’s Top Doctor, and the People’s Choice Award for Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
