Dr. William R. Auger is currently an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He earned a medical degree from the University of Rochester, completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship and accepted a faculty appointment at UC San Diego in 1989. It was there that he devoted more than 32 years to the evaluation and management of patients with chronic thromboembolic disease and other large vessel pulmonary vascular disorders, directing the development of one of the leading CTEPH Programs in the world. In 2018, Dr. Auger retired from UC San Diego though his clinical and academic work in the field of chronic thromboembolic disease continued at Temple University in Philadelphia between 2018 and 2021. He remains active as a clinical advisor for developing CTEPH programs in the US, and is a leadership member of the PERT-sponsored US BPA Alliance.
