Prof Andrew Sharp is Professor of Cardiology at University College Dublin and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
He conducted his senior clinical training in London, completing the Milan-Imperial Interventional Cardiology Fellowship programme. He was awarded an MD postgraduate research degree from the University of Edinburgh for his work on the hypertensive heart and his current research interests include device-based treatments for hypertension, pulmonary embolism, intracoronary imaging and coronary physiology.
He is co-PI of the STRIKE PE study of computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy for the treatment of PE. He is also co-PI of the RECOVER-AV study of the use of the alphavac thrombectomy technology for the treatment of PE. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the HI-PEITHO randomised controlled trial of the use of Ekos catheter lysis vs anticoagulation for the treatment of PE, and is a member of the steering committee of the PERSEVERE trial of catheter thrombectomy vs medical treatment for the treatment of High Risk PE.
