Dr. Zia is a Professor of Pediatrics, the Associate Vice Chair of Clinical Research for the Department of Pediatrics, the Associate Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and the Director of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) and Children’s Health.
Dr. Zia received her Doctorate of Medicine from King Edward Medical University, Pakistan. She completed her residency, pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship, and subsequently, a Hemostasis-Thrombosis fellowship from Wayne State University, Michigan before joining UT Southwestern as faculty.
Dr. Zia’s clinical and research efforts have been successful through three new clinical multidisciplinary programs she has founded at UTSW: The Young Women’s Blood Disorders Program, The Pediatric Thrombosis and Venous Thromboembolism Outcomes Program, and the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team. These clinical programs are wedded to her independent clinical and translational research programs funded by NIH since 2015, investigating mechanisms and treatments of post-thrombotic syndromes. In addition to leading successful clinical and research programs, she mentors trainees and leads several junior faculty members in leading collaborative research across cross-cutting themes nationally and internationally through the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society and the Neonatal and Pediatric Scientific and Standardization Subcommittee of the International Society of Thrombosis Haemostasis.
