Menno Huisman, MD, PhD, FESC, is internist and registrar in cardiovascular medicine and science professor in the Department of Medicine – Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the Leiden University Medical Center.
He obtained his medical degree at the University of Amsterdam and a PhD degree with the subject of objective diagnosis of deep-vein thrombosis. He completed a residency in internal medicine, followed by completion of a 2-year fellowship in hematology, at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.
Dr Huisman’s main research areas are in clinical research, particularly in the areas of diagnosis and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolism.
He has initiated, together with Stavros Konstantinides and Erik Klok, the European EXPERT-PE network - the European counterpart of PERT - and initiated the local EXPERT-PE team in the LUMC.
He is the past European representative in the Board of Directors of the United States based PERT organisation.
