She is passionate about improving all aspects of the prevention and care of venous thromboembolism
She is founder & trustee of Thrombosis UK and past chair of the Steering group of World Thrombosis Day.
In 2019
- awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to medicine.
In 2020
- awarded the British Society for Haematology medal for service to Haematology
-with Dr Karen Schreiber won The Eberhard F Mammen award from Thieme publishing for the most popular article.
In 2021
- honoured with an ISTH Esteemed Career award
- the first woman to give the Van Creveld lecture for the Netherlands Thrombosis & Haemostasis Society
- gave the first Gustav Born lecture.
- co-led the UK Expert Haematology Panel defining, managing and researching Vaccine-induced Immune Thrombocytopenia & Thrombosis (VITT), working with bodies such as the Royal Colleges and BBC Radio 4.
In 2022
- gave the John Stern lecture at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland
- chaired the local organising committee of the 2022 International Society for Thrombosis & Haemostasis Congress in London
In 2023
- the Expert Haematology panel for VITT, awarded a Royal College of Pathology Achievement award
- joint winner of BSH Prize for the most downloaded article in the British Journal of Haematology
She has over 500 publications listed in PubMed and an "h" index of 110
During COVID-19 pandemic she became an international expert on thrombosis and coagulopathy in COVID-19, giving over 120 international webinars. She continues to co-chair the WHO and NICE living Covid-19 guideline development groups.
