Dr. Michael Risbano is a Pulmonary Critical Care Physician Scientist in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned both his Master's and Medical Degrees at Boston University, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, along with an advanced Fellowship in Pulmonary Vascular Disease at the University of Colorado, before being recruited to the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Risbano subspecializes in pulmonary vascular disease and enrolls patients into investigator and industry-sponsored clinical trials as the Director of Translational Pulmonary Hypertension Research Program. He developed and directs the Advanced Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (aCPET) Program at UPMC, and investigates the physiologic and molecular drivers of exercise intolerance from a variety of complex disease states such as pulmonary vascular disease, post-pulmonary embolism, Long-COVID, and preload insufficiency.
Dr. Risbano directs the UPMC Post-COVID Recovery Clinic, where he utilizes advanced physiologic and diagnostic testing to evaluate and treat patients with Long-COVID. Recently, Dr. Risbano received a fundable score for a translational research R01 project investigating the pathophysiology of exercise intolerance in Long-COVID.
